Holden's shootout goal earns Otters win over Mississauga St. Michael's Majors @NHLdotcom

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Derek Holden's shootout goal proved to be the winner as the Erie Otters earned a 1-0 victory over the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in the Ontario Hockey League on Monday afternoon.

The loss snapped the Majors' three-game win streak.

Mississauga appeared to win the game in regulation when Devante Smith-Pelly beat Erie goalie Adam Courchaine with a wrist shot in the dying seconds of the third. But the goal was disallowed after the officials determined there was no time left on the clock.

Neither team scored in overtime before Holden registered the lone shootout goal in the third round. Smith-Pelly, Jordan Mayer and William Wallen failed to score for the Majors (37-13-6).

Greg McKegg and Mike Cazzola were unable to do so for Erie (27-23-7).

Couchrane finished with 37 saves while the Otters had 28 shots on Majors goalie Chris Carozzi, including a penalty shot with 10 seconds remaining in the second.

Both teams went 0-3 on the power play.
