BRAMPTON, Ont. - Cody Hodgson had a goal and two assists as the Brampton Battalion defeated the Mississauga-St. Michael's Majors 4-2 in Game 5 of their OHL Eastern Conference semifinal series Thursday.

The win gives the Battalion a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven, and they'll try to close out the series Friday night in Mississauga.

After Anthony Peluso opened the scoring on the power play at 9:59 on the power play, Hodgson struck with the man advantage 7:09 into the second period to make it 2-0.

Sam Carrick and Evgeny Grachev added goals to expand the lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes, forcing rookie goaltender JP Anderson out of the game. He surrendered four goals on 30 shots.

Chris Carrozzi turned aside all 11 shots he faced in the third period.

The Majors started to show some life in the third, with Michael Pelech breaking Thomas McCollum's shutout bid with a power play goal 2:39 into the period. Josh McFadden reduced the deficit to two at 10:55 but that's as close as Mississauga would get.

"These are competitive teams that are playing hard for every inch of ice," said Battalion head coach Stan Butler. "We had a really good start and while I would have been happier with a stronger finish, that's a credit to Mississauga too. They're going to battle right to the end."

McCollum finished the game with 28 saves on 30 shots.
