Hitmen score four power-play goals in second period to beat Rebels 5-3 @NHLdotcom

CALGARY - Brett Sonne scored one and set up two others to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 5-3 win over the Red Deer Rebels in WHL action Friday night.

Trailing 2-0 after the first period, the Hitmen (1-0-0) erupted for four power-play goals in the second period. Sonne, Ian Schultz, Brandon Kozun and Jason MacDonald all scored in the middle frame, while Kyle Bortis chipped in with three assists. Chase Schaber then added an insurance marker in the third period to go with an assist he recorded on Schultz's goal.

Willie Coetzee and Brett Ferguson scored in the first period for the Rebels (0-1-0), while Tomas Polak counted a second-period marker.

Calgary's Dan Spence made 23 saves to record his 74th career win to tie Brent Krahn for most wins by a Hitmen goaltender. Red Deer goalie Darcy Kuemper stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced at the other end.
