BOUCHERVILLE, Que. - Moncton Wildcats left-winger Olivier Daoust has been suspended eight games for his hit from behind on Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Jason Seed.
Daoust skated hard into the Saint John zone on the forecheck and put a crushing hit on Seed in the Sea Dogs' 2-1 victory over the rival Wildcats on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for boarding. Seed got up from the hit but was visibly shaken as he skated to the bench.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced the suspension Friday after reviewing video and reading officials' reports.
QMJHL disciplinarian Raymond Bolduc said determining factors in the suspension were the distance travelled, speed and force of the impact.
The six-foot-three 215-pound Daoust has three goals, two assists and 66 penalty minutes in 26 games this season.
