Dan Hinote will not return to the Columbus Blue Jackets coaching staff next season, the team announced Tuesday.
Hinote, who joined the Blue Jackets as an assistant coach prior to the 2010-11 season, has decided to leave for personal reasons. Columbus went 43-32-7 this season and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where it lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference First Round.
It was the second playoff appearance in franchise history.
"I'm disappointed that Dan won't be continuing the work we've started here, but I understand his desire and need to put family matters first," Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. "He has been a great asset to our staff and I want to thank him for his hard work and dedication."
Richards signed a two-year contract extension on May 27 that will take him through the 2016-17 NHL season.
