Hickman scores short-handed winner to lead Thunderbirds over Chiefs, 3-2 @NHLdotcom

SPOKANE, Wash. - Justin Hickman scored the short-handed winner in the third period as the Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Monday.

With newly acquired right-wing Seth Swenson in the penalty box for interference, a Tyler Alos pass sprung Hickman, who broke in on Spokane goaltender Mac Engel.

Engel stopped Hickman's shot but slid back into the net, taking the puck with him over the goal-line.

Swenson, acquired form Portland at the Jan. 10 trade deadline, had the other two goals for Seattle (17-23-1). Calvin Pickard made 31 saves.

Mike Aviani and Blake Gal replied for Spokane (22-14-6). Engel stopped 21 shots.

The Chiefs finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play, with the Thunderbirds going 1-for-2.
