SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Shaun Heshka scored the overtime winner as the Manitoba Moose topped the Syracuse Crunch 3-2 in AHL action Saturday.
The win ended a five-game road trip for Manitoba (32-13-0-2), extending their winning streak to six and putting them one point above the Grand Rapids Griffins for first place in the North Division.
Moose forward Dusty Collins opened the game by scoring his first goal of the season and Maxime Fortunus put Manitoba up 2-0 in the second period.
But Syracuse (21-19-3-2) rallied to send it to OT.
Derek MacKenzie scored in the second period, cutting the Moose's lead to one, then Crunch forward Craig MacDonald added a power-play goal with less than a minute left in the third period.
Heshka's slapshot from the point at 2:25 into OT quickly ended the Crunch's comeback bid.
Manitoba goalie Karl Goehring made 24 saves for the win against his former club, while at the other end Dan LaCosta stopped 19 shots.
