Edmonton Oilers defenseman Matt Hendricks joined NHL Live to discuss the Oilers' start to the season and Defending the Blue Line, a program that benefits military families.
Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said recently that the team is starting to put it together. To Hendricks, the key has been consistency.
"That's kind of been our Achilles' heel here for a while," Hendricks said. "When we can get a consistent game going for 60 minutes we seem to be pretty successful, but we still have those big hiccups like young teams do and they seem to really hurt us."
Hendricks is an active supporter of Defending the Blue Line, which helps children of military members receive the chance to play hockey by providing free equipment and free access to summer hockey camps.
"It's such a great program because what it really focuses on is giving back to the kids of the men and women that protect us by getting them to games, help take care of costs that are required in hockey," Hendricks said. "Just any way that we can give back and try to say thanks."
