BRANDON, Man. - Andrew Hayes made 34 saves to backstop the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 3-1 victory over the Regina Pats in the final regular-season game for both Western Hockey League teams Saturday night.
Travis Hamonic, Jay Fehr and Brenden Walker provided the offence for the Wheat Kings (50-18-4), who placed first in the East Division.
Jordan Eberle, almost surely playing in his final game of junior hockey, replied with his 50th goal of the season for the Pats (30-35-7), who will miss the playoffs for the second straight year.
Dawson Guhle stopped 37 shots for Regina, preventing Wheat Kings' Brayden Schenn and Matt Calvert from getting their 100th points of the season. Calvert was limited to one assist, while Schenn was held scoreless, leaving both players at 99 points for the campaign.
The game drew 6,042 fans, setting a Wheat Kings franchise record for their home arena of Westman Place, breaking the mark of 6,022 set just three nights earlier.
