VICTORIA - Keith Hamilton made 37 saves, earning the game's first star, as the Victoria Royals defeated the visiting Portland Winterhawks 3-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.
Mike Forsyth and Dakota Conroy each had a goal and an assist for the Royals (24-41-7), who secured themselves a playoff position in the West, while Jamie Crooks added a single goal.
Nicolas Petan scored the lone goal for the Winterhawks (48-19-4), who in defeat lost any hope of winning the US Division title.
Mac Carruth stopped 29 shots in a losing effort.
Victoria went 0 for 1 on the power play while Portland failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
