WINDSOR, Ont. - Taylor Hall had two goals and an assist as the Windsor Spitfires exploded for seven unanswered goals en route to a 7-2 rout of the Oshawa Generals on Sunday afternoon in the Ontario Hockey League.
Hall's three-point effort tied him with teammate Ryan Ellis for the OHL scoring lead with 33 points. Ellis had a goal and an assist in the game. John Tavares, the OHL's third leading scorer, had an assist for the Generals to bring his season point total to 27.
The Generals (7-9-0-1) led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Jeff Brown and Taylor Carnevale. That lead held until six minutes into the second, when Hall scored a highlight reel goal by lofting a backhander past Generals' netminder Darryl Borden on a 2-on-1 with rookie Austin Watson. Ellis and Andrew Yogan scored before the end of the period to give Windsor a 3-2 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
Watson, Rob Kwiet, Hall and former General Dale Mitchell all scored for Windsor (17-1-0-0) in the third period to put game out of reach.
The win extended the Spitfires' winning streak to 11 games and was their second win in two games against Oshawa this season. The Generals lost for the second time this weekend after falling 5-1 to the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday.
Windsor netminder Andrew Engelage made 22 saves for the win. Borden stopped 42 shots while taking the loss in net for Oshawa.
