Guelph Storm defeats the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4-3 on Friday

GUELPH, Ont. - Tyler Melancon's goal 41 seconds into overtime propelled the Guelph Storm past the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4-3 Friday night in the Ontario Hockey League season opener for both teams.

Melancon converted a pass from Anthony Nigro, who paced the Storm (1-0-0-0) with a goal and three assists. Travis Gibbons and Matt Kennedy added singles for Guelph, while Taylor Beck chipped in a pair of assists.

Matthew Lyall led the way with two goals and an assist for the Greyhounds (0-0-1-0), his second goal of the game with 1:55 left in the third period forcing overtime. Michael Quesnele added a goal and an assist in defeat.

Jake Fischer earned the win for Guelph with a 22-save performance.

Cody St. Jacques was solid in the loss, turning aside 43 shots for Sault Ste. Marie.
