SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Jon Groenheyde stopped 31 shots to backstop the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers in Western Hockey League action Friday.
Groenheyde improved his record to 4-3-2 while helping the Broncos win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Taylor Vause's goal 17 seconds into the third period stood up as the game winner. It was the overage veteran's team leading 11th of the season.
Broncos rookie Coda Gordon scored his 10th goal during a second period power play.
Defenceman Reece Scarlett added a power-play goal as the Broncos went 2-for-6 with the man advantage.
Medicine Hat rookie Trevor Cox scored his first career goal, while WHL leading goal scorer Emerson Etem counted his 18th of the season with a short-handed goal in the middle period.
Medicine Hat goaltender Kenny Cameron dropped to 1-1-0 after turning aside 21 of 24 shots.
The win improves Swift Current?s record to 6-7-2, while Medicine Hat falls to 10-5-0.
