There's a budding rivalry in the NHL between the old guard and the new kid on the block.

A budding mascot rivalry, that is.

Gritty is feuding with SJ Sharkie, and the San Jose Sharks mascot escalated tensions by dropping a jack-o'-lantern that was carved to resemble the rookie Philadelphia Flyers mascot.

The feud started Monday when Gritty antagonized some real sharks, then pulled plush shark dolls off the shelves at the Adventure Aquarium across the Delaware River from Philadelphia in Camden, New Jersey.

Expect Gritty to fire back at some point, possibly even at his regular-season debut when the Flyers prepare his grand entrance at their home opener against the Sharks on Tuesday.
