Green to return for Red Wings against Stars

STARS (11-3-0) at RED WINGS (7-5-1)

Season series: The Detroit Red Wings swept the Dallas Stars last season. Red Wings forward Darren Helm scored twice in a 5-2 win at Joe Louis Arena on Dec. 4, then defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored 36 seconds into overtime for a 7-6 win at American Airlines Center on Feb. 21. Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk had four points in that game and six in the series.

Stars team scope: Forward Patrick Sharp, who scored the game-winning goal Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes, injured himself on the play and is questionable, according to the Dallas Morning News. Ales Hemsky took Sharp's place on the top line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin at practice Saturday. Goalie Kari Lehtonen looks likely to make a third straight start with Antti Niemi staying on the ice Saturday for additional work. Lehtonen made 30 saves in the 4-1 win against Carolina. With an assist on Sharp's goal, Seguin extended his point streak to seven games (four goals, seven assists). His 21 points led the NHL entering games Saturday.

Red Wings team scope: Coach Jeff Blashill confirmed Sunday that defenseman Mike Green will return to the lineup. Green hasn't played since Oct. 23 because of a shoulder injury. "Although it's been two weeks, it feels like it's been a month," Green told on Saturday. "I can't wait to get back out there. I'm hoping it's going to be easy. There's always that first period trying to get the speed back." Datsyuk (ankle) said he's about a week away from making his season debut. Forward Landon Ferraro sustained a lower-body injury during a 2-1 overtime win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday and won't play, Blashill said. Rookie Dylan Larkin assisted on the 300th NHL goal of Henrik Zetterberg's career in the victory after scoring the winning goal in consecutive games against the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning. Blashill said Jimmy Howard will start in goal.
