The 2019-20 NHL season had many incredible moments before it was paused on March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, and now fans can decide which one was the best.

The Greatest Moments of the NHL season … So Far is down to 32 entries from the original bracket of 64 with the first round now complete. Fans will vote on one matchup per day, ultimately deciding the greatest moment up until this point

Fans can vote on Twitter and Instagram each day from noon until 10 a.m. ET the next day. Each day, the winner of that matchup will be revealed, and a new set of moments will go head-to-head.

Though fans will have the ultimate say, two NHL.com staffers will weigh in on the matchup each day to give his or her opinion on which one should advance to the third round.

In the matchup Sunday, Elvis Merzlikins' shutout streak for the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated Jack Eichel's 17-game point streak for the Buffalo Sabres.

The matchup Monday has Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov scoring a lacrosse-style goal Oct. 29 taking on Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask's diving blocker save Nov. 21.

I'm always one for a great goalie save, and Rask's definitely was one of the best this season. But will people be talking about it next season, or in five years? Probably not. What Svechnikov did never had been done in an NHL game previously and likely still will be discussed decades from now. The forward went behind the net, got the puck on his stick blade and stuffed it over the right shoulder of Calgary Flames goalie David Rittich to tie the game 1-1 in the third period of an eventual 2-1 win by the Hurricanes. And if you ask Svechnikov or his teammates, it only was a matter of time before he pulled it off. "I actually practiced this move this morning, so it's a great try for me," Svechnikov said after the game. "I practice it with (Hurricanes coach) Rod (Brind'Amour) actually a lot. He passes it to me when I'm going behind the net, and I try that move almost every practice." To me, this was one of the greatest moments of the season so far, but Svechnikov wasn't done; he scored another lacrosse-style goal in a 6-3 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 17.

CGY@CAR: Svechnikov scores lacrosse-style goal

Goaltending is such a technical enterprise these days. Everything is about playing the angles, choosing the proper save selection, and sticking to the fundamentals. So when a goalie breaks from that rigidness, it's eye-catching, at least for me. There was nothing conventional about the Rask save against Evan Rodrigues of the Buffalo Sabres. It was all instinct, and form and personal safety were thrown to the wind with the lunging, blocker-hand save. Even Rask realized how out of character his channeling of Dominik Hasek was in the grand scheme of things. "I try to be in position to make saves," he said, "so it's fun to make a save like that." Fun for Rask, fun his for teammates, and fun for casual fans and goalie nerds alike. That appeal across strata is exactly what defines a great moment. Far be it from me to dismiss the Svechnikov lacrosse-style goal. It was a beauty, but as David points out, the player repeated the feat less than two months later, dulling the luster of its "unique" claim. Don't believe me about the save, though; let's go to Bruins forward Brad Marchand, a fine arbiter of hockey accomplishments. "That's a highlight save of the year," he said. I concur!
