Fleury's incredible save vs. Forsberg's lacrosse goal

The 2019-20 NHL season had many incredible moments before it was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, and now fans can decide which one was the best.

The Greatest Moments of the NHL Season ... So Far is down to eight entries from the original bracket of 64 with three rounds now complete. Fans will vote on one matchup per day, ultimately deciding the greatest moment up until this point.

Fans can vote on Twitter and Instagram each day from noon until 10 a.m. ET the next day. Each day, the winner of that matchup will be revealed, and a new set of moments will go head-to-head.

In the matchup Tuesday, Pekka Rinne's goalie goal for the Nashville Predators defeated Oliver Ekman-Larsson bringing a special gues to Arizona Coyotes' Hockey Fights Cancer night.

The matchup Wednesday pits Vegas Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's sprawling save against Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg's lacrosse-style goal.

Though fans will have the ultimate say, NHL.com staffers have cast their vote for which moment should advance to the final four, with Fleury's save winning 12-7.

Here is what some of the voters had to say about their pick:

Fleury save

"I'll take the play that helped a team win. Fleury's ridiculous glove save on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nic Petan preserved a 3-2 Vegas lead in the third period of what became a 4-2 win. The save was incredible and the meaning behind it was huge. Forsberg's lacrosse-style goal was special, but it was in the first period of a 4-2 loss. Give me the save and the win." -- Dan Rosen, senior writer

"Lacrosse goals like the one Forsberg scored are fun, but what gives Fleury's diving save the edge for me is that it was an important save in preserving his 450th NHL win, keeping the Golden Knights ahead 3-2 at the time. Unfortunately, Forsberg's goal came in a loss, so its impact was not as big." -- Tom Gulitti, staff writer

"This was the most electrifying save of the NHL season courtesy of Fleury, who's well-known for his Stanley Cup Playoff heroics over the years. Fleury absolutely robbed the Maple Leafs late in the third period with one of the most acrobatic, thrilling stops you'll ever see." -- Pete Jensen, senior fantasy editor

"Not only was the Fleury save artistically pleasing -- a super man making a Superman save -- but it was historically significant as well. It helped preserve a victory for the Golden Knights and was the most indelible part of the 450th win of his brilliant NHL career. -- Shawn P. Roarke, Senior Director of Editorial

"The Forsberg goal was great but had been done earlier in the season -- twice -- by Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov. Fleury's save was outstanding and should go down as one of the best." -- David Satriano, staff writer

"Fleury's save was so ridiculous it fooled the TV broadcast. The score changed and had to change back. It preserved a 3-2 lead for Vegas late in the third period." -- Nicholas J. Cotsonika, columnist

"Wonderful trick shot by Forsberg on his lacrosse special, but that save by Fleury was off the charts. He would have scored high points from Olympic judges for his brilliant dive, even if his entry was a little messy." -- Dave Stubbs, columnist

"How can you argue against the NHL save of the year?" -- Mike Zeisberger, staff writer

Forsberg goal

"In the matchup of spectacular vs. spectacular, I'm going with the backhand lacrosse-style goal version of spectacular." -- Tracey Myers, staff writer

"Have we really gotten to the point where lacrosse-style goals are no longer memorable? Sure, this was the third this season, but it was still spectacular. I'm going with Forsberg." -- Bill Price, Editor-in-Chief

"Though Fleury's save was truly amazing, he himself said, 'It was a little lucky.' There was nothing lucky about Forsberg's feat. From the time he chased down the puck in the corner and began skating behind the Edmonton Oilers net, he knew exactly what he was going to do. And after finishing the play by banking the puck off the left side of Edmonton goalie Mike Smith and into the net, there was no doubt about this moment instantly becoming one of the season's best." -- Barry Rubinstein, manager, assignments

"The confidence that was evident as Forsberg drove around the net as the only person in the building who knew what he was about to attempt was a sight to behold. It left everyone in the building in a state of shock, particularly Edmonton goalie Mike Smith and defenseman Darnell Nurse." -- Brian Compton, deputy managing editor

"Sure, Fleury's save was unbelievable. But I've got to take Forsberg and his lacrosse-style goal in this matchup. It might not have been the first time it was accomplished -- credit to Svechnikov -- but it was no less impressive, taking it from a one-person fluke to perhaps the next NHL trend. And it's one I'm here for." -- Amalie Benjamin, staff writer

"The lacrosse-style goal became a popular event this season, but what separates the Forsberg goal was the way he did it at full speed, one motion. No stopping to set the play up, just skating, a scoop, a lift and a tuck under Smith's glove. Just remarkable." -- Adam Kimelman, deputy managing editor
