MONTREAL - Gerrad Grant scored the game-winning goal early in the third Monday as the Halifax Mooseheads beat the Montreal Junior 4-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Gabriel Desjardins, Alexis Piette and Jan Stransky also scored for the Mooseheads, while Halifax goalie Mark Yetman stopped 20 shots in the win. Montreal's Nick Layton had two goals and an assist and Jean-Francois Berube made 28 saves in the loss.
Desjardins opened the scoring for Halifax with just under nine minutes remaining in the first period. Piette made it 2-0 on a power-play goal five minutes into the second.
Layton scored his first of the night to bring Montreal to within one just before the midway point of the period, but Stransky restored Halifax's two goal lead just 36 seconds later.
Layton's second of the game and Angelo Esposito's 21st of the season two minutes apart at the end of the second tied the game at three heading to the final frame.
But Grant's power-play goal just over five minutes into the third broke the deadlock and was the difference.
Layton two goals on the night gives him 22 for the year.
Halifax (14-32-3-2) finished 2-for-3 on the power play, while Montreal (25-21-1-2) went 0-for-6.
