Grand Rapids defeats Syracuse in Game 2 of Calder Cup Finals

Ben Street scored 7:02 into the second overtime to give Grand Rapids a 6-5 win against Syracuse in Game 2 of the Calder Cup Finals at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday.

Grand Rapids, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, leads the best-of-7 series 2-0 with Game 3 at Syracuse on Wednesday.

Michael Bournival scored for Syracuse, the affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, to tie the game 5-5 with 4:45 left in the third period.

Neither team led by more than two goals, and 10 players scored.

Jared Coreau made 50 saves for Grand Rapids. Mike McKenna made 45 for Syracuse.

Grand Rapids led 2-1 in the first period on goals by Martin Frk at 5:27 and Street at 12:29, 1:52 after Yanni Gourde scored for Syracuse.

Syracuse took a 3-2 second-period lead on goals by Joel Vermin at 4:30 and Erik Condra at 5:41 before Evgeny Svechnikov tied it 3-3 at 12:53.

The teams alternated goals in the third period with Tomas Nosek (at 24 seconds) and Tyler Bertuzzi (at 13:36) scoring for Grand Rapids, and Cory Conacher (at 7:47) and Bournival scoring for Syracuse.

Grand Rapids won Game 1 3-2 on a goal by Nosek with 14 seconds left in the third period Friday.
