BRAMPTON, Ont. - Evgeny Grachev scored twice and added an assist to pace the Brampton Battalion to a 5-3 victory over the Niagara IceDogs in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.
The Battalion (20-6-1-0) have now won a franchise-record 12 straight games on home ice.
Andrew Shaw opened the scoring for the IceDogs at the 11:40 mark of the first period. Defenceman Alex Pietrangelo, recently sent down by the St. Louis Blues, gave Niagara (11-11-4-4) a two-goal lead with a power-play marker at 7:09 of the second before Grachev cut the deficit to one 44 seconds later.
Josh Shalla tied the game at two at 8:41 of the third period, redirecting a Sam Carrick feed past IceDogs goaltender John Cullen. After Grachev's second goal of the game gave the Battalion their first lead of the afternoon, Thomas Stajan scored what would prove to be the eventual winner, deflecting Alexander Eriksson's point shot past Cullen.
Andrew Agozzino made it 4-3 with 15 seconds remaining but Jason Dale scored an empty-netter just as time expired.
Patrick Killeen made 24 saves for Brampton, while Cullen stopped 40 shots.
