Gomes scores shootout winner in Mississauga's 3-2 victory over Sarnia @NHL

SARNIA, Ont. - Jared Gomes had the lone goal in the shootout as the Mississauga-St. Michael's Majors edged the Sarnia Sting 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.

Gomes scored in the second round of the shootout, and Mississauga netminder Chris Carrozzi made it stand, stopping Sarnia shooters Justin DiBenedetto, Ben O'Quinn and Jamie Arniel in succession.

The Majors (12-13-0-1) thought they had won the game in regulation, but Arniel forced overtime with just six seconds left in the third period.

Brett Flemming and Devante Smith-Pelly had Mississauga's goals in regulation, while Carrozzi stopped 40 shots in the win.

DiBenedetto had the other goal for Sarnia, while Dan Spence made 26 saves in defeat.
