Golden Knights 4, Capitals 3: 3 Takeaways

The Golden Knights were behind all day today. Except at the end.
Vegas erased three separate one-goal Capitals leads today, leading to Alex Tuch's game-winning goal with 5:12 remaining in the third period. Marc-Andre Fleury held on for the rest of the way for the Golden Knights, who won 4-3 to improve to 35-13-4.
This leads both the Pacific Division and Western Conference.
Here are three takeways from today's game.

1. Just What Tuch Needed

It's been a tough month for Alex Tuch. Playing mostly on a line with Cody Eakin and Brendan Leipsic, Tuch had been without a goal in 11 games.
For him, scoring a game-winning goal late in the third period was the perfect way to get back on track.
But it was also key for the Golden Knights. For as much as this team has relied on the top line of William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith to score (and this trio scored two more goals today), getting a game-winning goal against a first place team on the road cannot be understated.
Huge moment for Alex Tuch, huge moment for the team.
Tuch also became the seventh Golden Knight to reach double digits, with the goal being his 10th of the season, and added an assist to finish with a two-point game.
2. Vegas Power Play Continues To Perform

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for the Golden Knights on this road trip has been the team's power play.
Ever since snapping out of a rut two weeks ago in Carolina, Vegas has been dynamite on the man advantage. Today, after being held without a power play for nearly two periods to start the game, Reilly Smith delivered a power-play goal that tied the game, 2-2, in the second period.
Smith had an even-strength goal to tie the game, 3-3, in the third period.
The Golden Knights finished 1-for-1 today, and is now 10-for-17 (59%) in its last seven games.

3. Unsung Heroes

When Gerard Gallant elected to scratch Brendan Leipsic two games ago, it brought Ryan Carpenter back into the lineup. Today, Carpenter scored his first goal as a Golden Knight, becoming the 23rd different Vegas player to find the back of the net this season.
Carpenter added the primary assist on Tuch's game-winner in the third. Although he wasn't the only "unsung" Vegas player to find the scoresheet today.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, who centers the "so-called fourth line," also contributed two assists. He got helpers on both Carpenter and Tuch's goal.
Nate Schmidt, a defenseman known more for defense, also chipped in an assist today.
When the Smiths, Marchessaults, Perrons and Karlssons of this team score, it's still a big deal, although those players are expected to produce. But when Vegas can get contributions as deep in the lineup as it did today, the Golden Knights become nearly impossible to defend.
