Girgensons talks All-Star vote, Sabres hot streak

by Staff

Buffalo Sabres center Zemgus Girgensons, the top vote-getter after three weeks of voting in the 2015 NHL All-Star Fan Vote presented by SiriusXM, joined NHL Live to discuss his path to the League and the Sabres' recent run.

Girgensons' 14 points in 27 games is tied for second on the Sabres. As of Tuesday, he earned 803,805 total votes to represent Buffalo on Jan. 25 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

"It's crazy," said Girgensons, a native of Riga, Latvia. "People back home are just crazy hockey fans. It's always been like that. It's fun, it's cool, it's mixed emotions, it's funny at the same time."

The Sabres are 7-3-0 in their past 10 games since a 3-13-2 start and play the Calgary Flames on Thursday at First Niagara Center.

"I think it's about teammates just getting together and knowing each other," Girgensons said. "At the start we had a lot of young faces and we didn't know what to expect from each other. But right now the group has really come together and it's showing on the ice. Guys really care about each other."
