Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf joined NHL Live to discuss his candidacy for the Hart Trophy and the upcoming Western Conference Second Round matchup against the rival Los Angeles Kings.
Getzlaf, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby and Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux are the three finalists for the Hart Trophy, given to the NHL's most valuable player. Getzlaf scored a career-high 31 goals and was second in the League with 87 points while helping the Ducks to the best record in the Western Conference for the first time in franchise history
"It's a tremendous honor to be put in that category and in that group of players," Getzlaf said. "It's just one of those years when things seemed to be going in the net when I was shooting. Obviously our team's success helps that stuff. Our team has done a great job this year and when you have team success chances are individuals are going to have success as well."
Following their victory against the Dallas Stars in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Ducks open their best-of-7 series against the Kings on Saturday at Honda Center (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, RDS, TSN).
"It's going to be so much fun," Getzlaf said. "Obviously they've proven that they can win at all costs and we're looking forward to that challenge. There's some great players over there that have experienced a lot of things in the last few years. It's going to be a great series. We're excited about it."
The Ducks went 4-0-1 against the Kings in the regular season with four games decided by one goal.
"They're always big games. Those are fun hockey games to play in," Getzlaf said. "When you're playing against the Kings there's always that great rivalry that's been building over the years here, so it's been fun."
