Germany tops U.S. before 77,803

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany -- Germany's Felix Schutz redirected a shot past United States goalie Scott Clemmensen 21 seconds into overtime to give Germany a 2-1 win against the U.S. before a record crowd of 77,803 at Veletin Arena in the first game of the 2010 World Championships.

The crowd surpassed the 74,554 for the 2001 college game between Michigan and Michigan State.

Germany's Michael Wolf opened the scoring off an assist from Marcel Mueller in the first period. Ryan Carter tied the game at 8:28 of the third period.
