Georges Laraque

Georges Laraque played 13 seasons in the NHL because of his ability to protect teammates from opposing tough guys.

On Saturday, Laraque helped protect a 7-year-old girl from someone much scarier.
Laraque was among a group of people who helped a family avoid a nightmare at a Montreal park when a 24-year-old man allegedly attempted to kidnap their daughter, according to CBC Montreal.
Jonathan Gamez-Arias was charged Monday with abducting someone under the age of 14 and is due to appear in court Tuesday.
'I was going to tackle him,' Georges Laraque says of attempted kidnapping suspect
Laraque was in Jeanne-Mance Park on Saturday playing in a charity baseball game when he and the other players noticed a commotion. Gamez-Arias allegedly grabbed the girl and began walking away with her when he was tackled by the girl's family.
The players taking part in the game immediately went over and surrounded the man until the police could arrive on the scene.
"I just wanted to make sure that if he got up that I was going to tackle him right away," Laraque told CBC Montreal.
Laraque said the incident hit home for him.
"I have twins and this could happen to anyone," Laraque said. "We've heard stories of a child being abducted and to see [something] like that - it's pretty scary."
