The 24-year-old forward, who was a restricted free agent, had an arbitration hearing in Toronto on Wednesday. The arbitrator had 48 hours to render a decision.

Smith, who had 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 46 games for the Stars last season, can become a restricted free agent July 1, 2019, and would be eligible for arbitration again.

Selected by Dallas in the fourth round (No. 104) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Smith has 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) in 63 NHL games.
