BARRIE, Ont. - Artur Gavrus scored the shootout winner as the Owen Sound Attack edged the Barrie Colts 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.
Mike Halmo scored in regulation for Owen Sound (3-1-0), which is riding a seven-game winning streak over the Colts, dating back to last season.
Zach Hall had the lone goal for Barrie (2-0-1), which suffered its first defeat of the season despite a 36-save performance by goaltender Mathias Niederberger.
Joseph Blandisi and Gregg Sutch had shootout goals for the Attack and Colts, respectively.
Barrie got on the board first when Hall came off of the bench and snapped home a feed from Colin Behenna.
Owen Sound evened up the score 45 seconds into the third period when Halmo's attempt deflected off of a player in front of Barrie's goal and went in.
Colts forward Tanner Pearson, who is the reigning CHL Player of the Week, was awarded a penalty shot with 4:56 remaining in the third, but his attempt was thwarted by Jordan Binnington.
There were plenty of power-play opportunities in the contest, but neither squad found much success.
Barrie went 1-for-8 with the man advantage while the Attack finished the night at 1-for-10.
Binnington turned aside 26 shots for Owen Sound.
