Gatineau opens QMJHL regular season with 3-1 win over Victoriaville @NHLdotcom

GATINEAU, Que. - Jean-Philip Chabot and Alexandre Touchette scored short-handed goals 3:30 apart in the third period to lead the Gatineau Olympiques to a 3-1 win over the Victoriaville Tigres in the QMJHL regular-season opener Thursday night.

With Nicolas Valliere Meyer in the penalty box, Chabot beat Tigres netminder Kevin Poulin at 4:36 of the third period to even the score 1-1. Gatineau took the lead for good at 8:06, when Touchette scored an unassisted goal with teammate Alex Lamontagne serving a penalty.

Hugo Laporte added an insurance goal at 15:11 of the third for the Olympiques (1-0-0-0), who finished 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Dave Nolin's goal 3:35 into the game provided the lone offence for Victoriaville (0-1-0-0), which was shut out in 12 power-play chances.

Maxime Clermont stopped 32 shots to preserve the victory for Gatineau.

Poulin made 17 saves in defeat.
