Gatineau Olympiques forward Paul Byron named CHL player of the week

TORONTO - Forward Paul Byron of the Gatineau Olympiques was named Canadian Hockey League player of the week Tuesday.

He had 10 points (5-5) and a plus-7 rating in four Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games last week.

Defenceman Keith Seabrook of the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen and forward John Tavares of the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights were also considered.

Thomas McCollum of the OHL's Brampton Battalion was named CHL goaltender of the week. He had two shutouts and posted a 3-0-0-0 record last week.

Griffins goalie Howard named AHL player of week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Jimmy Howard was named American Hockey League player of the week Tuesday.

He won both of his starts last week.

Howard recorded a shutout and posted a 0.94 goals-against average and .971 save percentage.
