CHILLIWACK, B.C. - Captain Greg Gardner paced his club, notching one goal and two assists as the Prince George Cougars overcame a shaky start to post a 5-4 win over the Chilliwack Bruins Saturday in the WHL.

Dana Tyrell, Brad Riege, Parker Stanfield and Jordie Deagle also counted for Prince George (16-40-1-3).

Bruins Captain Nick Holden had two goals in defeat, giving him 18 on the season, which ties him for the league lead in goals by a defenceman.

Jadon Potter and Randy McNaught also scored for Chilliwack (25-26-3-4).

Cougars goalie Real Cyr faced 42 shots, making 38 saves, many of them spectacular, for the win, while Mark Friesen suffered the loss for the Bruins, turning aside 27 of 32 shots faced.

The Cougars held leads of 2-1 after one period and 4-2 after two before having to hang on late in the game to post their seventh road victory in 30 starts this season.

With the win, the Cougars avoid elimination from the 2008 WHL playoffs for one more night. The Bruins magic number to clinch a playoff berth remains at two, with the Bruins still having 14 games left to play this season.
