Gardner scores winner in last minute as Cougars rally to beat Wheat Kings 3-2 @NHL

BRANDON, Man. - Captain Greg Gardner scored the winning goal with 47 seconds left in the third period as the Prince George Cougars came from behind to beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-2 in WHL action Friday night.

Gardner knocked in a loose puck on his own rebound as the Cougars improved their record to 2-6 by winning the opening contest of their six-game road trip.

The Cougars trailed 2-1 going into the third period, but rookie Parker Stanfield scored his first WHL goal to tie the game with 2:42 remaining, setting the stage for Gardner's winner. Ty Wishart also scored for the Cougars.

Matt Lowry and Daniel Bartek replied for the Wheat Kings, who slipped to 5-2, despite outshooting the Cougars 36-16.

Prince George goalie Tommy Tartaglione made 34 saves, while Joe Caligiuri made 13 saves for Brandon.
