"I'm actually running out of creative answers to describe it, too. Just a remarkable effort. Especially the way they responded after getting scored on in the third. That was important and great leadership," said Oilers head coach Todd McLellan.
After Matt Duchene scored a power play goal early in the third to draw the Senators within a goal at 2-1, the Oilers then responded with two in the next 46 seconds to make it a 4-1 game and then added another 53 seconds after that.
"We've talked a lot about those push back response shifts. He and their line did a great job of doing that tonight," the bench boss noted.
Only eight seconds after the Duchene goal, McDavid spotted Nugent-Hopkins in the slot and he redirected it in to regain the two-goal edge for the visitors. 38 seconds after the Nugent-Hopkins goal, McDavid threaded the needle to Ty Rattie who got the puck just inside the post blocker side on Anderson and suddenly it was 4-1 Oilers.
Things went from bad to worse for the Senators as Zack Smith got called for high sticking. 59 seconds into that man advantage, Drake Caggiula scored to make it 5-1 for the Oilers. That was three goals in 103 seconds for the Oilers.
Ottawa got one back with just over five minutes to play when Chlapik redirected a shot from the point for his first career NHL marker.

McDavid skated through the Sens defence and quickly snapped a shot from close range past Anderson to make it a 6-2 game with his fourth point of the night.
"He's just got so much pace to his game, so much deception that it's tough to defend," McLellan added, on McDavid.
In all, the line of McDavid, Rattie and Nugent-Hopkins had nine points and were a collective +12 on the night.
"I pinch myself," said Rattie when asked about playing with the duo. "McDavid's last goal, I'm on the ice and watching and it's unbelievable what he can do with the puck. I'm lucky enough to play with two good players and lucky enough to contribute tonight."
McDavid added that he thought his line played exceptionally well tonight, much better than in Carolina where they also put up some points.
"We've had our good nights and we've had our off nights," said McDavid. "I thought the other night in Carolina was not a good night for our line. Our team was great and kind of picked us up. But tonight I thought we were real good."

Coach McLellan added he hasn't been surprised with Rattie's play.
"We've got to remember, Ty's a pretty offensively creative player. He's scored a lot in his career, especially through his junior days. Maybe it hasn't happened for him as much at the NHL level but the opportunity he's getting now to play in the top six or top three and the amount of icetime, he's taking advantage of it.
"I don't know if he's ever got that chance. He's getting it now and we'll see if he can sustain it. He's fit that line well. He thinks the game at their level and puts himself in a good spot."
Oilers had a strong opening period, taking the play to the Senators for the majority of the first 20 minutes.
Early on, Nugent-Hopkins fed McDavid at the top of the crease but Senators starting goaltender Craig Anderson made a nice save, turning the Oilers captain away on the backhand attempt.
8:23 into the game, Oilers scored first. After a point shot from Darnell Nurse that was tipped by Pontus Aberg, Caggiula picked up a loose puck in the crease and backhanded it into the wide-open net for the goal.
5:10 into the second period, Nugent-Hopkins made a great pass off the left side boards to McDavid in front. McDavid made no mistake, rifling it past Anderson to double the Oilers lead to 2-0.
McLellan talked about the team getting its third win on a single road trip for the first time all season.
"Three was a big number for us. We got to two and before the game tonight we talked about three. We hadn't got there on any of our road trips (this season). Not every one's a four-game or five-game but when we had the opportunity, we'd fall short so we considered this a successful one and we want to go home and continue to move the needle forward.
"What caused it? Everybody's contributing. We're scoring a little more, the penalty kill's improved, the power play found a way to score one finally tonight. A lot of areas of the game that are going the right way right now."
