EDMONTON, AB - Grab that puck, Josh Currie.
The forward from Charlottetown, PEI scored his first NHL goal in the first period, before Sam Gagner tipped home just 57 seconds into the middle frame to provide the eventual game-winning goal in a 2-1 win for the Oilers over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night at Rogers Place.

POST-GAME UPDATES
Inside The Oilers Blog
"Words can't really describe how I'm feeling right now," Currie said post-game. "It's obviously even better to get the win, but I'm just super excited and wouldn't want to get it with another group of guys."
Mikko Koskinen stood tall with 33 saves, fending off a late Ducks push and video review in the final minute to help the Oilers finish a three-game homestand 2-0-1.
"I think it's getting better," Koskinen said after securing his 16th win of the season. "Slowly, but we have to keep on track and do the work to try and get better every day."
The Oilers were without Connor McDavid serving the first game of a two-game suspension handed down Friday morning, with the job of sharing the workload from the omittance of their captain needing to be done tonight.
"He's irreplaceable, obviously, but it's a cliche that guys need to step up," Gagner said. "We had a lot of guys play really well tonight, we kept a lot of their chances to the outside, and made them earn a lot of what they got. That's a good sign for us and hopefully, we can build off it."
The Oilers were outshot 7-0 in the opening nine minutes, with Draisaitl testing the Ducks freshman netminder Kevin Boyle in his fourth NHL start with a smart deflection.
Zack Kassian then had his wrap-around slide dangerously through the crease after the first whack to the right of Boyle as the Oilers ramped up pressure.
The first goal of the night would be a special one, as Josh Currie banging home the rebound in front with four minutes on the clock for his first NHL goal in only his third game.
"Just make it count. You might not get that many looks in this league," Currie said of his first NHL marker. "It's pretty tight defensively, so you have to make those opportunities count and luckily it was able to go in. I'm sure I had a lot of family and friends watching back home, so it's a moment I won't forget."

POST-GAME RAW | Currie 2.23.19

Milan Lucic recorded his 300th assist on the play, and Andrej Sekera notched his first point since returning from injury on February 19 versus Arizona.
"The addition of [Sekera] on the back end has made a big difference for us," Chiasson said of the blueliner's regular return to the lineup. "You can't teach experience in this league, that's something that you learn as you go, and when you get guys with experience that have played in these types of games, that's huge value for our team."
After waiting until 10:50 for their first shot, the Oilers were outshot 10-8 in the first period but were ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard.
This time, the Oilers were the quickest out of the gate to start the second frame. Awaiting a delayed penalty, the Oilers made the extra man count when Gagner beautifully tipped home his third of the campaign (second as an Oiler) after just 57 seconds from between the hash marks off the net-bound shot from Draisaitl.

ANA@EDM: Gagner redirects Draisaitl's shot home

Koskinen was eventually solved almost nine minutes later despite getting a piece of Carter Rowney's shot in close that popped over the netminder's shoulder, halving Edmonton's lead at 2-1.
The Oilers trailed on the shot clock 21-16 but led in the goal department 2-1 through 40 minutes.
Ryan Kesler's hook on Draisaitl sent the Oilers to their first power-play of the night, but they were unable to convert the four shots they sent Boyle's way with the man advantage.
With 3:38 left in the game, the Ducks would head to their first power play after Draisaitl's follow-through travelled up the stick of Michael Del Zotto to earn two minutes in the box. The Oilers killed the penalty, but Corey Perry looked to have equalized with 45 seconds remaining before the referee waved it off due to Adam Henrique's contact in the crease with Koskinen.
"There was contact on me because I was sliding backwards," Koskinen said of the play. "I don't know if it was a skate or stick that made me slide, but it was clear contact."

POST-GAME RAW | Hitchcock 2.23.19

The play went to the war room in Toronto and the call would stand as time would run out for the Ducks in a 2-1 defeat to the Oilers at Rogers Place.
The Oilers depart tomorrow on a season-long five-game road trip that begins Monday against the Nashville Predators.
"This is nine of 10 that we've played awful well, so this is just the accumulation of good play," Oilers Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said. "If you compete at this level like we're doing, you give yourself a chance against anyone every night. Now we're on the other side of these one-goal games, and we're going on the road where quite frankly play better than we do at home."
