The Stars skinny: Lots of change in Dallas. More firepower, new goalie and a new coach. The Stars have lots of, well, stars. Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza have now been joined by Alexander Radulov to form what may turn out to be the most potent offense in the NHL. But scoring wasn't the problem in Dallas last season - keeping the puck out of the net was the issue. Now the Stars have goalie Ben Bishop to rely on and defensive mastermind Ken Hitchcock behind the bench. That's the story in Dallas - can the Stars continue to score while at the same time bending to Hitchcock's defensive wishes. If they can keep up the production but turn off the goals-against tap - the Stars will be a contender.
The Vegas skinny:History in the making for the Golden Knights as they play their first ever regular season NHL game. Head coach Gerard Gallant and his staff will get to see how their roster fares under the bright lights of real NHL competition. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will be the most important on the ice tonight and likely every night. Vegas has lots of players that can play a solid two-way game but appear to be a little light on offense. They're going to need to live up to their identity which will be based on their work ethic. Puck management will be key for the nights as they will need to maximize the offence they do produce. Easy goals-against just can't happen for this group.
