Kyle Gajewski stopped 24 shots for his third shutout of the season as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds padded their lead in the OHL's West Division with a 3-0 win over the Sarnia Sting on Thursday.
Gajewski's 12th career OHL shutout lifted the Greyhounds (37-15-12-4) to their fifth straight win. The victory increased Sault Ste. Marie's lead in the West to four points over Windsor, with each team having 10 regular-season games left.
The Spitfires' game against the Plymouth Whalers originally scheduled for Thursday night was postponed due to the sudden death of Windsor captain Mickey Renaud on Monday.
Elsewhere in the OHL on Thursday, it was: Kitchener 3 Peterborough 1, Barrie 5 Owen Sound 2 and Saginaw 4 Brampton 3.
At Sarnia, Ont., Dustin Jeffrey, Josh Godfrey and Matt Caria each had a goal and an assist to pace Sault Ste. Marie. Jeffrey opened the scoring with a short-handed goal 13:45 into the first period, while Godfrey and Caria added power-play goals to pad the advantage.
Tomi Karhunen made 34 saves for the Sting (31-24-2-0), who have lost two straight.
