MONTREAL (AP) -Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey is back at work following the death of his daughter, who was swept overboard last month while working on a tall ship in the Atlantic.
Gainey, a Hall of Fame defenseman, returned to his Bell Centre office in recent days after a leave, team spokesman Donald Beauchamp said Tuesday. Assistant GM Pierre Gauthier filled in for Gainey during his absence.
Laura Gainey, a 25-year-old volunteer crew member, was aboard a ship sailing from Nova Scotia to Grenada. On Dec. 8, a large wave tossed her from the Picton Castle about 475 miles off Cape Cod. Air and sea crews were unable to find her after a three-day search.
A moment of silence was held for her Dec. 12 in Montreal before the Canadiens played Boston.
