Sam Gagner is 25, entering his eighth NHL season, and never scored more than 18 goals or finished with more than 49 points in any of the first seven. That's not the kind of production expected from the seventh player taken in the 2007 NHL Draft.
But he's optimistic a change in scenery will lead to a change in fortune.
Gagner is the Arizona Coyotes' biggest offseason acquisition. He joins the Coyotes after seven seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, and Arizona will be looking to him to carry a significant load offensively. That's just fine with him.
"I put more pressure on myself than anyone ever could so I'm just excited for the challenge," Gagner told the Coyotes website Friday. "I feel like I can take a step forward in my career here. I'm excited for the opportunity and looking forward to getting started."
