All the Prince George Cougars needed was a visit from the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Prince George snapped a 13-game losing streak Friday with a decisive 4-1 win over Edmonton in Western Hockey League play Friday night. The Cougars recorded only their second win of 2010. Prince George's first win of the year was a 6-4 win over the Kamloops Blazers on Jan. 2. The Oil Kings and the Cougars are at the bottom of their respective conferences and have struggled all season.

Prince George goaltender Hudson Stremmel made 33 saves to earn his fifth win of the season.

Edmonton's Cam Lanigan started in net, stopping 25 of 28 shots before Torrie Jung replaced him and made 11 saves.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was Brandon 4 Kootenay 0; Saskatoon 5 Regina 4 (SO); Red Deer 4 Moose Jaw 3 (OT); Kelowna 3 Lethbridge 2; Portland 6 Seattle 3; Swift Current 2 Prince Albert 1 (OT); Spokane 5 Kamloops 1 and Vancouver 1 Everett 0.

At Prince George, B.C., James Dobrowolski, Spencer Asuchak, Clarke Breitkreuz and Tyler Halliday all scored for the Cougars (10-40-3).

Michael St. Croix's power-play goal was the only score for the Oil Kings (11-33-12).


Wheat Kings 4 Ice 0

At Brandon, Man., Jacob De Serres earned the shutout as the Wheat Kings in blanked Kootenay.

Aaron Lewadniuk, Scott Glennie, Alexander Urbom and Brayden Schenn scored for Brandon (37-16-3).

Todd Mathews made 28 saves for the Ice (34-17-4).


Blades 5 Pats 4 (SO)

At Regina, Walker Wintoneak had an assist and the shootout winner to help Saskatoon overcome the Pats.

Travis Toomey, Marek Viedensky, Gaelan Patterson and Josh Nicholls scored for Saskatoon (35-12-6).

Jordan Eberle scored twice for Regina (23-26-6) and Cass Mappin and Carter Ashton had one apiece.


Rebels 4 Warriors 3 (OT)

At Moose Jaw, Sask., Willie Coetzee scored in overtime as Red Deer beat the Warriors.

Quinton Howden and Thomas Frazee scored for Moose Jaw (26-19-8). Dylan McIlrath had the other goal.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice for Red Deer (30-20-4), while Justin Weller had the other goal.


Rockets 3 Hurricanes 2

At Kelowna, B.C., Geordie Wudrick scored the winner for the Rockets as they topped Lethbridge.

Tyson Barrie and rookie Shane McColgan also scored for Kelowna (27-25-4).

Landon Oslanski and Mitch Maxwell replied for Lethbridge (16-33-5).


Winterhawks 6 Thunderbirds 3

At Portland, Ore., Nino Neiderreiter had a pair of goals to lead the Winterhawks over Seattle.

Ty Rattie, Luca Sbisa, Ryan Johansen, and Stefan Schneider also scored for Portland (33-20-3).

Prab Rai and Jeremy Schappert scored for the Thunderbirds (14-30-9). Charles Wells had the other goal for Seattle.


Broncos 2 Raiders 1 (OT)

At Prince Albert, Sask., Matt Tassone had the overtime winner as Swift Current shaded the Raiders.

Adam Lowry had the other goal for the Broncos (27-25-3).

Mark McNeill was the lone scorer for Prince Albert (28-23-5).


Chiefs 5 Blazers 1

At Spokane, Wash., Tyler Johnson and Jared Spurgeon both had two goals and an assist as the Chiefs topped Kamloops.

Captain Jared Cowen had the other goal for Spokane (31-19-4).

C.J. Stretch had the only marker for the Blazers (25-25-6).


Giants 1 Silvertips 0

At Langley, B.C., Vancouver continues to succeed at their home away from home as they blanked Everett.

Mark Segal made 18 saves for his second shutout of the season and James Henry provided all the offence for Vancouver (33-20-3).

Thomas Heemskerk stopped 39 shots for Everett (33-18-3).
