The Saint John Sea Dogs advanced to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semifinals with a decisive victory Friday night.
Jonathan Huberdeau scored in each period and added two assists as the Sea Dogs thumped the P.E.I. Rocket 7-2 in QMJHL playoff action. Saint John wins the series 4-1, and will face the winner of the Moncton Wildcats-Cape Breton Screaming Eagles match-up. Moncton currently has a 3-1 lead in the pairing.
As the top seed in the QMJHL, the Sea Dogs will have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
Huberdeau has five goals and two assists in five playoffs games this season.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was Quebec 6 Acadie-Bathurst 5; Victoriaville 4 Shawinigan 3; Chicoutimi 6 Rimouski 5 (OT); Rouyn-Noranda 9 Val-d'Or 4 and Gatineau 3 Montreal 2.
At Saint John, N.B., captain Mike Thomas had a pair of goals for the Sea Dogs, while Stanislav Galiev and Danick Gauthier added singles.
Benjamin Casavant and Jonathan Bonneau replied for the Rocket.
Remparts 6 Titan 5
At Quebec City, Mikhail Stefanovich and Mikael Tam both scored two power-play goals as the Remparts toppled Acadie-Bathurst.
Ryan Bourque had a goal and two assists for Quebec, while Dmitri Kugryshev had a marker as well.
David Gilbert tallied and added two assists for the Titan, while Ryan McKiernan, Jeremie Malouin, Danick Malouin and Taylor Lambke also found the back of the net.
The Remparts take the series 4-1, and will face the winner of the Rimouski-Chicoutimi pairing.
Tigres 4 Cataractes 3
At Victoriaville, Que., Joel Chouinard had the power-play winner and two assists as the Tigres fended off Shawinigan.
Philip-Michael Devos had a short-handed goal and two assists for Victoriaville, while Tomas Kubalik and Joel Champagne both scored with the man advantage.
Joe Dube and Pierrick Martel scored in the last five minutes of play to bring the Cataractes within one. Antoine Houde-Caron also had a marker.
The Tigres lead the series 3-2. Game 6 will be in Shawinigan Sunday afternoon.
Sagueneens 6 Oceanic 5 (OT)
At Rimouski, Que., Rock Regimbald scored the overtime winner as Chicoutimi stayed alive in its series against the Oceanic.
Michael Belanger's short-handed third period marker forced overtime for the Sagueneens. Alexis Piette and Antoine Roussel both had a goal and two assists, while Adam Bourque-Leblanc and Nicolas Therrien chipped in as well.
Jakub Culek and Alex Emond both had a pair of goals for Rimouski, while Alex Belzile also tallied.
The Oceanic have a 3-2 lead in the series. Chicoutimi will host Game 6 Sunday afternoon.
Huskies 9 Foreurs 4
At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Pier-Luc Giguere had a hat trick, including scoring on a penalty shot, as the Huskies pounded Val-d'Or.
Christophe Losier scored twice for Rouyn-Noranda, while Jordan Caron, Philippe Cornet, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc and Jeff Desjardins rounded out the attack.
Samuel Morneau had a pair of goals for the Foreurs, while Marco Scandella and Maxime Sauve added singles.
The Huskies lead the series 3-2. Val-d'Or will host Game 6 on Sunday.
Olympiques 3 Junior 2
At Verdun, Que., Joshua Domingues had the eventual winner as Gatineau edged Montreal.
Denis Kindl and Christian Ouellet also scored for the Olympiques.
Matthew Brenton had back-to-back goals for the Junior.
Montreal leads the series 3-2, which will move to Gatineau for Game 6 Saturday night.
