Friday's QMJHL roundup @NHLdotcom

Cape Breton were winners on a night the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League reached a milestone.

Felix Bergeron scored twice as the Screaming Eagles downed the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 6-2 in QMJHL action Friday.

The game was the 20,000th in league history. Originally called the Quebec Junior "A" League, it was founded in 1969 by Robert LeBel.

There were 11 teams in the league's inaugural season: the Cornwall Royals, the Drummondville Rangers, the Laval Saints, the Quebec Remparts, the Rosemont National, the Shawinigan Bruins, the Sherbrooke Castors, the Sorel Eperviers, the St-Jerome Alouettes, the Trois-Rivieres Ducs and the Verdun Maple Leafs.

Several teams have moved or been relocated and the league has expanded to 18 teams with franchises in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Maine.

NHL superstars like Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur are all products of the QMJHL.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Lewiston 3 Rouyn-Noranda 2; Saint John 5 Quebec 4 (SO); P.E.I. 4 Acadie-Bathurst 3; Chicoutimi 3 Rimouski 2; Montreal 5 Val-d'Or 1; and Moncton 6 Victoriaville 2.

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Jan Piskacek and Luke Adam had a goal and an assist each for Cape Breton (28-16-5), while Mathieu Brodeur and Nick MacNeil also scored.

Antoine Laperriere and Raphael Bussieres replied for Baie-Comeau (14-30-3).


Maineiacs 3 Huskies 2

At Lewiston, Maine, Jess Tanguy had a pair of goals as the Maineiacs tamed Rouyn-Noranda.

Francis Beauvillier opened scoring for Lewiston (17-28-2).

Sergey Ostapchuk and Philippe Cornet replied for the Huskies (27-18-4).


Sea Dogs 5 Remparts 4 (SO)

At Quebec City, Mike Hoffman, Tomas Jurco and Jonathan Huberdeau scored in the shootout as the Sea Dogs nipped the Remparts.

Stephen MacAulay tied the game in the third period for Saint John (39-7-1), while Christian Morin, Jurco and Stanislav Galiev also tallied in regulation.

Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored and added an assist for Quebec (28-13-7), while Jerome Cote, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Dmitri Kugryshev had markers.


Rocket 4 Titan 3

At Bathurst, N.B., Benjamin Casavant scored twice as P.E.I. edged the Titan.

Cody Linteau and Adam Polasek added markers for the Rocket (26-18-6).

Sebastien Trudeau had two goals for Acadie-Bathurst (17-27-5), while David Gilbert also tallied.


Sagueneens 3 Oceanic 2

At Chicoutimi, Que., Alexandre Lavoie had a pair of markers as the Sagueneens sank Rimouski.

Michael Trudel had the other score for Chicoutimi (17-22-8).

Etienne Boutet and Gleason Fournier replied for the Oceanic (24-17-6).


Junior 5 Foreurs 1

At Verdun, Que., Matthew Brenton had a goal and two assists as Montreal topped Val-d'Or.

Jeremy Gouchie scored and added an assist for the Junior (23-20-3), while Nicolas Chouinard, David Rose and Louis-Marc Aubry also tallied.

Cedrick Henley was the lone scorer for the Foreurs (17-25-5).


Wildcats 6 Tigres 2

At Victoriaville, Que., Alex Saulnier had the eventual winner as Moncton thrashed the Tigres.

Mark Barberio, David Savard, Ted Stephens, Tyler Howe and Kelsey Tessier all scored for the Wildcats (31-11-4).

Guillaume Goulet scored on a penalty shot for Victoriaville (33-14-2), while Tomas Kubalik also tallied.
