The Moncton Wildcats are clawing their way to the top of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with superior goaltending.

Shane Owen stopped 24 shots as the Wildcats mauled the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 6-0 in QMJHL action Friday night.

It was the second shutout of Owen's rookie year in junior hockey. The native of Markham, Ont. got his 10th career start as Nicola Riopel was given the night off.

Riopel was named the CHL Goaltender of the Week on Thursday after three solid wins in net. From Jan. 3rd to 10th Riopel had a 1.67 goals-against average, a .928 save percentage and one shutout.

Moncton has now won six games in a row.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Halifax 5 Chicoutimi 1; Victoriaville 4 Shawinigan 0; Drummondville 6 Acadie-Bathurst 1; Rouyn-Noranda 10 Lewiston 3; Montreal 5 Rimouski 4 and Quebec 4 Gatineau 3 (SO).

At Moncton, N.B., Marek Hrivik had a pair of goals and an assist for the Wildcats (29-11-4), while Mark Barberio, Devon MacAusland, Nicolas Deschamps and Ted Stephens also scored.

Nathan Dunnett made 27 saves for Baie-Comeau (13-28-3).


Mooseheads 5 Sagueneens 1

At Halifax, Travis Randell had the eventual winner as the Mooseheads stomped Chicoutimi.

Jessyko Bernard had a goal and an assist for Halifax (9-33-3), while Bradley MacDonald, Carl Gelinas and Brent Andrews also tallied.

Emrik Guillemette was the lone scorer for the Sagueneens (16-20-8).


Tigres 4 Cataractes 0

At Victoriaville, Que., Kevin Poulin made 26 saves as the Tigres blanked Shawinigan.

Joel Chouinard opened scoring for Victoriaville (31-13-2), while Philip-Michael Devos, Brandon Hynes and Tomas Kubalik added singles.

Marc-Antoine Gelinas stopped 37 shots for the Cataractes (21-18-6).


Voltigeurs 6 Titan 1

At Bathurst, N.B., Gabriel Dumont scored four goals as Drummondville rolled Acadie-Bathurst.

Mathieu Milse and Benoit Levesque had the other markers for the Voltigeurs (32-12-2).

David Gilbert had the only goal for the Titan (16-25-5).


Huskies 10 Maineiacs 3

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Philippe Cornet had a hat trick and added an assist as the Huskies ripped Lewiston.

Jordan Caron scored twice and had three assists for Rouyn-Noranda (27-17-3), while Jeff Desjardins had a pair of goals. Jean-Sebastien Berube, Gabriel O'Connor and Alexandre S. Brunet also found the back of the net.

Michael Chaput, Oskar Orrpars and Matthew Bissonnette scored for the Maineiacs (16-27-1).


Junior 5 Oceanic 4

At Rimouski, Que., Xavier Ouellet's goal stood as the winner as Montreal sank the Oceanic.

Louis-Marc Aubry opened scoring for the Junior (22-19-3), while Jeremy Gouchie, David Rose and Nicolas Chouinard also tallied.

Ryan Kavanagh had a goal and assist for Rimouski (23-16-6), while Petr Straka, Jakub Culek and Alexandre Mallet added markers.


Remparts 4 Olympiques 3 (SO)

At Gatineau, Que., Dmitri Kugryshev and Martin Lefebvre scored in the shootout as Quebec edged the Olympiques.

Ryan Bourque, Marc-Olivier Vallerand and Danick Paquette had goals in regulation for Quebec (27-13-6).

Christian Ouellet, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Alex Noel supplied the offence for Gatineau (23-18-4).
