Friday's OHL Roundup @NHL

It seemed like there were only two players on the ice for Sudbury.

John Kurtz had a hat trick and Alain Valiquette a shutout as the Subdury Wolves downed the Saginaw Spirit 3-0 in Ontario Hockey League action Friday night. The three-goal performance was the first of Kurtz's OHL career. It was Valiquette's third shutout of the season. The 18-year-old's first-ever came on Oct. 18 against the Brampton Battalion.

The win ends a three-game slide for the Wolves.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was Barrie 3 Brampton 2 (OT); Sault Ste. Marie 4 Guelph 2; Kitchener 8 Kingston 1; London 5 Erie 4 (OT); Mississauga 3 Niagara 0; Ottawa 4 Plymouth 3; Windsor 7 Sarnia 1; and Peterborough 4 Oshawa 3.

At Sudbury, Ont., Kurtz scored in each period for Sudbury (9-13-2), while Valiquette turned away 28 shots in the victory.

Anthony Peters made 25 saves for Saginaw (15-7-2).


Colts 3 Battalion 2 (OT)

At Brampton, Ont., Darren Archibald's power-play overtime goal lifted Barrie to victory over the Battalion.

Luke Pither had a pair for the Colts (18-4-1).

Nathan Lane and Ian Watters tied the game for Brampton (10-10-4).


Greyhounds 4 Storm 2

At Guelph, Ont., Ryan MacLean scored the eventual game-winner for Sault Ste. Marie as the Greyhounds hung on to beat the Storm.

Jake Carrick opened the scoring in the first for the Greyhounds (12-11-2), while Brett Thompson and Jordan Nolan added markers.

Mathew Sisca and Corey Syvret had goals for Guelph (11-11-1).


Rangers 8 Frontenacs 1

At Kingston, Ont., Jason Akeson's hat trick and assist led Kitchener as they toppled the Frontenacs.

Ryan Murphy had a goal and two assists for Kitchener(16-4-3), while Matthew Tipoff, Jeff Skinner, Jonathan Jasper, and Shane Prince added markers.

Michael Fine had the only goal for Kingston (12-12-2).


Knights 5 Otters 4 (OT)

At London, Ont., Jared Knight scored two goals including the overtime winner as the Knights beat Erie.

Garett Hunter, Justin Taylor, and Philip McRae had singles for London (15-7-1).

Mike Cazzola scored twice for the Otters (9-10-4), while David Shields and Greg McKegg added markers.


Majors 3 IceDogs 0

At Mississauga, Ont., JP Anderson made 20 saves for his first shutout of the season as Mississauga beat Niagara.

Devante Smith-Pelly, Tim Billingsley and Riley Brace, into an empty net, provided the offence for the Majors (18-4-2).

Mark Visentin made 33 saves for the IceDogs (8-13-4).


67's 4 Whalers 3

At Ottawa, Marc Anthony Zanetti and Tyler Toffoli had a goal and an assist each as the 67's edged out Plymouth.

Thomas Nesbitt and Dalton Smith had the other goals for Ottawa (9-10-5).

AJ Jenks and Beau Schmitz had a goal and an assist each for the Whalers (13-10-0) while Myles McCauley had the other marker.


Spitfires 7 Sting 1

At Sarnia, Ont., Richard Panik and Adam Henrique each scored twice as Windsor thumped the Sting.

Taylor Hall, Adam Wallace and Kenny Ryan also scored for the Spitfires (20-3-3), who outshot the Sting 57-14.

Kale Kerbashian scored the only goal for Sarnia (10-13-1).


Petes 4 Generals 3 (OT)

At Oshawa, Ont., Pat Daley capped a three-goal performance with the overtime winner as Peterborough won out over the Generals.

Justin Larson scored the other marker for Peterborough (12-13-0).

Christian Thomas, Jeff Hayes and Boone Jenner replied for Oshawa (8-12-3).
