TORONTO - Ryan White of the Calgary Hitmen won the CHL Player of the Week award on Tuesday.
White scored four goals and eight assists for 12 points in four playoff games, helping the Hitmen to a six-game playoff series win over Swift Current.
The 20-year-old native of Brandon, Man., is tied for second in WHL playoff scoring with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 12 games. The third round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2006 scored 28 goals and 44 assists for 72 points in 68 games in his fourth season with the Hitmen.
Meanwhile, Juha Metsola of the Lethbridge Hurricanes won Goaltender of the Week honours after going 3-0 with a shutout, as well as a 0.89 goals against average and .958 save percentage in three games.
Metsola stopped 11 shots in a 5-2 win over the Kootenay Ice in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semi-final series on Tuesday. The following night, Metsola stopped 28 shots in a 2-1 double overtime win and then he stopped all 29 shots he faced in a 3-0 series-clinching win in Game 5 on Friday.
In the American Hockey League, Barry Brust of the Houston Aeros was named the Goaltender of the Month for April. Brust stopped 110 of 116 shots in five appearances, posting a 1.22 goals-against average and .948 save percentage to help Houston secure a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Syracuse Crunch centre Derick Brassard is the AHL Rookie of the Month. Brassard registered 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) and a plus-7 rating in seven games as the Crunch closed out the regular season on a 15-game winning streak.
