Former Bruin Gary Doak Passes Away at 71

BostonBruins.com- Former Bruins defenseman Gary Doak passed away Saturday at the age of 71. The Goderich, Ontario, native played in Boston from 1965-1970 and again from 1972-1981.
Doak was a member of the Bruins' 1970 Stanley Cup championship team. During that season, the blueliner notched one goal and seven assists, while compiling 63 penalty minutes, in 44 games. He also suited up for eight playoff games.

In 14 seasons with Boston, the stay-at-home defenseman tallied 20 goals and 81 assists -- with a plus-125 rating and 656 penalty minutes -- in 609 games. The 609 career games are the 12th most for a defensemen in Bruins history.
Doak also played parts of two seasons each with the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks and one season with the New York Rangers.
After his playing career ended, Doak stayed with the Bruins as an assistant coach under Gerry Cheevers from 1981-1985. He later went on to be the head coach at UMass-Boston from 1985-1987 and was also a longtime member of the Bruins Alumni team.
