TORONTO – Philadelphia Flyers
forward Jody Shelley
has been suspended for two games and will forfeit $26,829.27 in salary for a punch to the head of Vancouver Canucks
defenseman Andrew Alberts
during a scrum in NHL game #544, on December 28, the National Hockey League announced today.
Shelley, who was suspended for two games on December 13, 2010, is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits his salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred at 12:29 of the third period. Shelley was assessed a match penalty.
Shelley will miss games on Dec. 30 at Los Angeles and Dec. 31 at Anaheim. He is eligible to return Jan. 2 at Detroit.
