Flyers RW Knuble has surgery to insert a plate in his face @NHLdotcom

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Philadelphia Flyers forward Mike Knuble had two plates inserted in his face during surgery Wednesday to fix his broken right cheekbone and right orbital bone.

Knuble was injured Saturday when he collided with New York Rangers veteran forward Brendan Shanahan. Shanahan suffered a concussion and went on injured reserve.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Knuble is out of any type of activity for a week to 10 days and will then start his conditioning. Trainer Jim McCrossin said on Tuesday that he hoped Knuble could return within a month after the surgery and not miss the remainder of the season.

Knuble has 22 goals and 43 points in 52 games.
