Flyers lose F Metropolit to the Habs, D Vaananen to the Canucks @NHL

PHILADELPHIA - Daniel Briere's return to the Philadelphia Flyers' lineup has come at a price.

The team had two players claimed off waivers Friday as Montreal picked up forward Glen Metropolit and Vancouver grabbed defenceman Ossi Vaananen.

Philadelphia had put the pair on waivers to make room for Briere's salary under the US$56.7-million cap. Briere is expected to return to the lineup Friday night after missing 35 games with a groin injury.

Metropolit now joins his fifth NHL team in the last three years. The 34-year-old is earning $1 million this season and is under contract for the same amount next year.

He had 14 points (4-10) in 55 games for the Flyers this season.

The 28-year-old Vaananen will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Vancouver will be his fourth NHL team.

He had one goal and 10 points in 46 games for Philadelphia.
