PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Three consecutive playoff appearances have earned Philadelphia Flyers coach Peter Laviolette a multiyear contract extension.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced the extension Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Laviolette has compiled a 122-73-26 record since taking over for John Stevens in December 2009. He led the Flyers to an appearance in the Stanley Cup finals that season after Philadelphia bested Boston in the conference semifinals despite losing the first three games of the series.
The Flyers collected 47 wins in each of the last two seasons only to be knocked out in the Eastern Conference semifinals, most recently by the New Jersey Devils.
Holmgren says Laviolette has done "a terrific job" to earn the extension.
