Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn
will be out indefinitely after separating his left shoulder during the second period of a 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Islanders
on Thursday night.
The Flyers said Coburn did not practice Friday. General manager Paul Holmgren did not provide an update on the injury, but the team recalled defenseman Oliver Lauridsen and placed Coburn on injured reserve -- suggesting that the injury is more than just a short-term problem.
Lauridsen, a 6-foot-6 native of Denmark, will make his NHL debut on Saturday when the Flyers play the Boston Bruins.
The Flyers also announced that defenseman Andrej Meszaros will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, effectively ending his season.
Meszaros missed 21 games with a shoulder injury earlier in the season and was hurt again in a 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
